If they have used it for extensive periods of time then there is a good chance that the motor and bearings have had some serious wear and tear. I can think of nothing worse than getting half way through a job and hearing the mixer suddenly stop working.
If you can afford it then I would always look at new concrete mixers for sale, you want the reliability and there is a good chance that you will find plenty of uses for it once you own your own mixer.
